If you have a brand new site on squat!net then you won't have the build-in weblinks option any longer.
You can do the following however :
Go to Menus, and add a new menu (Make sure to not auto add new pages there).
Add some custom links to the menu.
Go to the Widgets sections and add a custom menu widget to your sidebar using your weblinks menu.
